Cross-trainings hold a significance in an active learning environment. It refers to providing knowledge and skill-trainings to employees who are working in a different genre; or it can be understood as a skill and knowledge exchange programme within professionals of different fields. This can be done within a team, within an organization or at an inter-organizational level.

Cross-training and its importance has been understood well by experts and therefore they promote it all levels. It boosts the strength of a team because if all in a team are familiar with what is to be done in a specific situation, then the work becomes easy. In case, an employee is on an emergency leave, his/her colleagues can handle the responsibilities.

Cross-trainings also give a chance to explore how all the processes are inter-related in a corporate and business environment and how those depend on each other. Employees of one department understand the importance of those working in other departments through such sessions. Sometimes, a person is unaware of his/her talent due to lack of proper exposure. When such person is given a relevant environment in training sessions, then he/she could be aware of his/her other skills. During such sessions, one gets chances to learn even more in his/her own genre and also gets exposure to an environment of professionals from other genres. Generally, such sessions are conducted during workshops or corporate events where different organizations are participants. At international level, such sessions get a chance to understand different work-culture prevalent in different countries.
