Encouraging creativity

Many of us think of creativity as an inborn trait whereas others are of the view that it can be surely learned and developed; if that is the case we need to provide a conducive environment at the workplace for a creative mindset to express itself. A slew of innovative measures in the workplace would go a long way in fostering the creative mindset.

To witness ideas arising from creative employees, to make them think out of the box, organizations need to reward creativity. Their suggestions have to be taken seriously; this would motivate employees to come up with more and more creative ways of improving the processes and outcomes at their workplaces. If due recognition is not given people might think, it is a gross waste of time and energy to go about squeezing creative juices as the suggestions are not going to be implemented anyway.

Rewards & Recognitions

A given time frame works best for spurring action, setting asides a week’s time, collecting ideas by the end of the week, assessing the best idea and giving it the due reward, recognition and the biggest of all implementation is the best way to go forward. Monetary incentive could be a tangible reward, intangible ones are recognition, implementation. All of these go a long way in creating the right spirit and keep on bringing out the best in the employees. A fun working environment promotes positive mood, flexible thinking, widened perspectives and an open mind, that is more willing to explore alternatives and come out with still newer ideas. Team bonding activities, retreats every now and then are crucial in injecting creativity in the workplace, and brainstorming sessions conducted in such an environment produce fresh and innovative thinking for the organization to move ahead.
